As a child, I often spent long hours at my grandmother's house. Born in 1930, she worked in a factory and raised four of her own children (then three of her sibling's kids - of which one is my mother) all while tending to the family farm and her husband's early deterioration (due to a rare brain disease). As is often true in childhood, the adults in my life weren't particularly capable of "sheltering" me, even if they tried. I often found myself trailing curious uncles around grandma's property. Asking many questions, I was pleased to discover I could maintain straight forward conversations with adults.

Communicating with elders helped me discover a shared meaning and purpose that spans beyond a single lifespan. In part, I started this business because I fear society will fail to recognize the importance of understanding and communicating the essence of lived experience as it transforms across generations. I fear the historical context of a culture failing to pass down vital wisdom and grounding traditions. I fear a world where individual experience becomes so tailored and isolated that the new youth possess no context through which they can communicate with older people.

By engaging with my elders, I learned invaluable lessons that I hope to pass on to my children, ensuring continuity and connection across time. These are the values on which StorySite rests. In discussions regarding StorySite, it has become evident that the project's objectives and principles strongly resonate, consistently leading to renewed contemplations on individual values and aspirations for the broader community.
